Development Interview: Hannah

HGFC Development sessions take place on Saturdays with the aim of encouraging girls to make new friends, get active and try football in a fun and friendly environment. We spoke to one of our volunteers to find out more about what's involved.

I started helping in the development sessions in January as I wanted to volunteer for HGFC as part of my Duke of Edinburgh award.

I used to play for the club’s U14 team (and also started out in the HGFC development sessions) but more recently I have become interested in helping the younger girls learn to play football.

During the sessions I help set up, take the register and collect the subs, I enjoy overseeing the games and take part in refereeing the end match.

The sessions are helping me gain some experience in leadership and my confidence is growing. I really enjoy helping, especially with the youngest girls as many have never played before and its great watching their progress. The session is all about having fun so its relaxed without any pressure which is the best environment to learn in.

My volunteering section of my Duke of Edinburgh award has nearly been completed but I would like to continue helping in the development sessions. Having previously played in a team, I hope to be a role model to the newest players joining the club.

If your child is interested in joining the development sessions, please contact us.
